I am always surprised at how much sci fi stuff I do know, despite not thinking I am interested in it. When I saw the Star Trek Experience in Vegas I was amazed at how many of the costumes I recognized.
At CONvergence, I have twice won sci fi video bingo at the Dystopia party. Of course, I don't compete for myself, I compete for an absentee and perhaps that helps. I send the winnings to said absentee. The first time I won a dystopia glow in the dark beer mug, this past July I won a whole mess of things including T-shirts, Chinese propaganda posters, postcards... I kept one t-shirt and a few duplicate posters. I also entered a Canadian trivia contest and won a Canadian comic book, an "I love Canada" temporary tattoo and a yo yo with a maple leaf on it, I sent those to the same absentee, along with other freebies and winnings (including a bamboo steamer!). I did carefully remove any candy that might melt during shipment ;-)
At soon as I find my camera again, I will try to get some pictures from CON up. Its lots of fun!
Of course, I only go because I can watch belly dancing until the wee hours, lol. One of the best things this year was getting a massage ($5 to humane society) WHILE watching belly dancing! The cow asylum party was pretty darn good too! It was still going strong when I left about 3:30am.

The lovers, the dreamers and me...
RAINBOW CONNECTION
Kermit the Frog
(Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher)
Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbow's are visions
They're only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some chose to
Believe it
But I know they're wrong wait and see
Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
That keeps us star gazing
What do we think we might see
Someday we'll find it
That Rainbow Connection
The lovers the dreamers and me
Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices
I've heard them calling my name
Are these the sweet sounds that called
The young sailors
I think they're one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
There's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

What country are you?
You're Libya!
It seems that these days, you just say things to get attention.
Shock value is the really important thing for you now.
You used to have a cause, and this made you seem like a threat to the established order, but now you just want to say wacky stuff once in a while.
Air travel doesn't really mesh with your lifestyle, and you'd probably scare the security guards somehow anyway.
Take the Country Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid
Hmm, doesn't sound like me at all, but maybe a certain sock is rubbing off on me, LOL!
Thanks Avinsen!
Jack made this comment,
You're Switzerland! While most people think you're sort of stuck up, it's really just that people don't interest you that much. That's why you'd rather just stay out of everything and be as neutral as possible. Somewhere in there is an ability to be a psychiatrist because you're so objective, but you might just be too cold for that.

Laurie made this comment,
You're Texas! You aren't really much of your own person, but everyone around you wishes you'd go away, so you might as well be independent. You're sort of loud-mouthed and abrasive, but you do have a fair amount of power. You like big trucks, big cattle, and big oil rigs. And sometimes you really smell. But it's not all bad, you're big enough to have some soft spots somewhere in all that redneck madness.

Got a new toy today
I charged it up and tried it out, it sounds better than my phone's speaker phone and has a volume control and voice dial. Unfortunately, everyone I have on voice dial is asleep except one lucky person who is at a concert, so I called and heard a Pink Floyd song, and it sound fairly good.
It came with a neat little carry case to attach to the visor of your car. 3 hrs talk time, 100 hrs standby. Not bad.

Black death
8 days later the coughing get worse, tried warmer showers, vaopizers, anti histamines, nothing helped much. a couple days later coughing all the time, total dry cough, talking was hard, it was cough-word-cough-cough-word-cough so I called the evil nurse line. They asked me all these questions, stuff about my broken leg, my neck, nothing that had any bearing on my cough, then we got disconneted, so I called back. New nurse wants to ask the questions again, I say no just talk about cough, after a few breathing related questions she says call your dr. Its night but I call the dr, luckily my dr is on call. He calls, doesn't even block the id but anyway (or anyways for Laurie!), he says he can see me in the morning. I don't have a fever at that point, everyone has been telling me if I get a fever go to the er. I drive out and get cough meds, 45 mins later I have a fever of 102.8 so I drive to the er.
I am so warm when I get to the ER they don't bother taking my temp, they just wrap me in cold blankets. Stick me in front of one of the oldest xray machines I have every seen, its blue. Take my blood, do a culture, stick an oxygen clip on my finger. The ER dr is an old friend of my former dr of 15 yrs. He tells me how they dream of having their daughters who are currently in med school work with them at this hospital. I am coughing too hard to tell him they are nuts.
One of my good friends breaks her middle toe around then and goes to the same ER. we see each others car but miss each other, oh well. I have pneumonia, lower lobe of left lung is non-functional. The ER dr told me he had this kind of pneumonia 6 weeks ago. I am given the choice of being admitted or going home, am told it will get worse until the antibiotics kick in. I choose home figuring I will get more sleep there. They give me a loading dose, some to take with me and some T3. They tell me to take the T3 at night to give my muscles a rest from coughing.
I go home, it gets worse, I take the T3 and it feels like I am drowning, after a bit I am still drowning but I don't care. A friend stays on the phone with me for several nights, talks me through the "drowning" to the not caring part. Every time I cough really badly he says "are you alright?" and every time I say "no, I have pneumonia." There is a strange comfort in that.
